Greens promote illegal timber ban

The Green Party wants to ban imports of illegally-logged timber to protect forests in Third World countries and send a message that New Zealand is opposed to environmental destruction wherever it happens.

Co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons said most logging in Indonesia was illegal.

"If there is no market for this timber, the environmental destruction will stop."
