Regular readers of my Herald column will know that I usually share a lot of helpful marketing tips and strategies that businesses can use to create delighted clients and higher sales.
Today I have a bonus message for you about something a bit different.
My message is on how to have a remarkably enjoyable year in 2019.
Let me explain.
There is a terrific book called Happy Money - The Science of Happier Spending by Elizabeth Dunn and Michael Norton.
In this book the authors share five strategies for spending money that actually increase the amount of happiness you have in your life.
The very first strategy in the book is to spend money on "experiences" rather than "things".
It might sound strange that an experience you do once can make you happier than something you buy that you might keep for years.
However the scientific research shows that this strategy actually works.
With great experiences you often think about them before they happen, when they happen and long after they happen.
You also tell stories about your great experiences and you share these stories regularly with other people.
Research also shows that experiences also take longer to "get used to."
Remember the time you felt really energised, refreshed, inspired after coming back from a great show/dinner/vacation etc?
It is harder to get those same feelings from buying things.
A helpful tool to make sure you enjoy interesting experiences on a regular basis is to set up and use a Bucket List.
