Let me give you a real life example of how this is done.
Right now I want to enter a new market to offer my services to. (The market is businesses that sell a premium priced service that costs $20,000 or more.)
The first thing I did a couple of days ago was to go to two websites and put out a request to interview business people who sold a premium priced service costing $20,000 or more.
The websites I used cost no money to use and within 48 hours I had 27 businesses contact me asking if I could interview them.
(The websites are Help a Reporter Out or HARO for short and Source Bottle)
I've now selected 10 of these businesses to interview over the next week
(One is a business that sells websites for $25,000 to $100,000 each. They have over a thousand happy clients for their website services and I'm looking forward to hearing how they sell a common service like websites for such premium prices.)
I'll record all the interviews and have them transcribed.
And I'll use the information in these interviews to create some valuable new marketing resources for this target audience.
(Which will help me to get known fast in a positive way.)

Imagine you want to sell a product or service to the legal market.
Interview 10 successful legal practices and ask them to share 2-3 things they do that made their legal practice so successful.
Record and transcribe the interviews and create a Success Guide for Legal Firms
Offer this guide to the legal market at no charge. (You could do this by getting a business that already has legal clients but is not a competitor to your business to offer this success guide to their legal clients.)
You'll get a good number of legal firms to order this guide from you.
And you are now positioned as an expert on what makes legal firms successful.
You can now contact a number of the legal firms who have ordered your success guide and show them how your product or service can help make them more successful in some way.
You will have the nice advantage of being well known in a positive way by a number of the people you approach.
The good news is that most successful business people are happy to be interviewed if you invite them in the right way.
(A nice side benefit is that once you have interviewed 10 successful businesses in one industry you learn some valuable ideas and tips that make you very knowledgeable in this industry.)
