Listed retirement village operator Metlifecare has appointed Gavin Aleksich as its new chief executive after a six-month international search.
Mr Aleksich has worked for the company for four months after being seconded from accountants Ferrier Hodgson to lead a strategic review of Metlifecare's operations. He takes up his new job in the New Year.
Mr Aleksich was not available for comment, but Metlifecare chairman Peter Fitzsimmons said his experience in healthcare, finance and management would serve the company well as it moved to its next growth stage.
"Gavin stacked up well against a pretty competitive field, particularly from Australia and the UK."
Mr Aleksich, who is 36, worked as a nurse for several years before retraining as an accountant and later completing a management degree.
He has worked for South Auckland Health, Roche Pharmaceuticals and Calan Corporate Services, which established the Ascot hospital in Ellerslie, before joining Ferrier Hodgson as a corporate adviser a year ago.
Mr Aleksich replaces Mark Russell, who left abruptly in July.
Metlifecare lost $1.3 million in the six months to June 30, mainly through restructuring.
