The forestry sector is signing up to a new safety agreement with the Government, unions, WorkSafe and the ACC.
Forest owners, managers, contractors, workers and training organisations will be represented at today's signing of the Forest Industry Safety Council Charter.
The council has initiated the charter as a largely symbolic public commitment to improve safety.
But chairwoman Dame Alison Paterson said it set high goals for the industry to work towards to make forestry a safe and healthy sector to work in.
She said having so many industry representatives committing to lead by example and work collaboratively is a powerful gesture.
