The forest industry's effort to make work safe does not usually make headlines but it was honoured at a function attended by 400 guests in Rotorua last night.
Jenny McLeod, of Thames Timber, received an outstanding achievement award at the Forest Industries Training National Awards for 10 years of work on developing training materials, courses and standards.
She won one of 17 awards handed out to companies and individuals for trying to improve working conditions and skills in an industry that has been criticised for "damaging its workforce" by reacting to boom-and-bust market conditions.
