New Fletcher Building chair Peter Crowley may have wooed shareholders at its AGM, but not everyone is happy he’s been permanently appointed to lead its board.
Crowley, a director at the New Zealand Exchange-listed (NZX) building materials giant since 2019, was confirmed as Fletcher Building’s new chair on Monday morning.
He shot to prominence standing in for acting chair Barbara Chapman at what was expected to be a torrid shareholder meeting in October.
However, by the end of the meeting, some shareholders were suggesting perhaps Fletcher already had its chair in Crowley, who impressed with his grasp of the details, plumbing background and ability to cut off rambling comments or smooth over pointed questions.
Long-standing critic Sam Stubbs said Crowley’s appointment would consign the multinational firm to years of continuing mediocrity.
