New Zealand Exchange-listed Fletcher Building director Peter Crowley has been announced as the company’s new chairman.
In a notice to the NZ Exchange (NZX), the building materials giant ended months of speculation about who would lead its board after a tumultuous 2024, when its former chairperson, chief executive, chief financial offer and half its board were ousted.
Crowley had an unexpected star turn at Fletcher Building’s annual general meeting, and shareholders suggested he was the right person for the job.
Crowley will assume the role immediately.
Acting chairwoman Barbara Chapman, who is the chairwoman of NZME, said given the chairperson’s role’s importance, the firm could not compromise on finding the right leader. For an external candidate to be selected, they had to be better qualified than Crowley.
