Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell says the US central bank does not need to rush to adjust interest rates, after pausing cuts in its first decision since President Donald Trump returned to office.
“We do not need to be in a hurry to adjust our policy stance,” Powell told reporters, saying the world’s biggest economy remains solid.
The US Federal Reserve will wait to see how Trump’s policies affect the economy, Powell said.
“We’re going to wait and see,” Powell said in response to a question about how the Fed was considering Trump’s economic proposals, which include the imposition of new tariffs and the mass deportation of undocumented workers.
Wall Street stocks finished lower ahead of a deluge of earnings from tech heavyweights as markets digested the Fed’s decision.
