Last year's Fashion Week generated $23.2 million for the New Zealand economy.
A study commissioned by event organisers looked at designers' sales resulting from the event, as well as downstream spending in the economy by international buyers and media.
It found an estimated $19.2 million was generated for the Auckland economy as a result of the event. Designers expected incremental foreign exchange earnings from Fashion Week would exceed $9.5 million.
Anonymous comments from designers, collated as part of the research project, indicated that they believed the event had provided great exposure for their brands, and helped them attain or lift their global profile.
