Transtasman media firm John Fairfax will not lay off any editorial staff in New Zealand, although cuts have been announced in Australia.
New Zealand chief executive Joan Withers said there would be "definitely no redundancies for New Zealand".
Fairfax has said it will slash up to 7.5 per cent of editorial staff at its Sydney and Melbourne metropolitan newspapers - up to 55 employees - to reduce costs. Last year, Fairfax shed about 45 editorial positions and 86 printing jobs.
