KEY POINTS:
Some people did not get salary payments overnight because of a problem with ANZ National's "Direct Online" corporate banking system.
"Owing to an operator error during the bank's overnight batch processing last night, a number of payments were not made," the bank said.
The error was contained to domestic payments made using ANZ's "Direct Online" corporate banking system used by businesses.
The bank said the error affected around 10 per cent of the transactions processed by this part of its system.
All banks in New Zealand were advised of the situation.
ANZ said it sincerely apologised to customers for the inconvenience to them resulting from the error.
People who are having difficulty accessing funds as a result of payments not going through last night as expected should make contact with their bank in the first instance.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand, New Zealand's central bank, said there was no disruption to end of day interbank settlement as a result of the processing problem.
ANZ National is New Zealand's largest bank and a unit of Australia's ANZ.
The problem has been identified and was being resolved, ANZ said. The affected payments would be processed this evening.
It did not impact on ANZ's other electronic payments systems, such as internet banking.
