A technical hitch left people with Kiwibank accounts waiting for money, including benefits and salaries, they were expecting to get overnight on Monday.
Kiwibank spokesman Bruce Thompson said the problem had arisen because deposits and withdrawals between banks were not completed on time. As a result Kiwibank customers expecting to get money overnight would not have had that money available in their accounts.
Thompson said the money was expected to be available from 1pm yesterday. No one would lose any money and the bank was working yesterday with people who urgently needed money. He said Kiwibank would look for the cause once it had fixed the problem.
