KEY POINTS:
Don Brash, the former leader of the National Party and governor of the Reserve Bank, was appointed today as a director of the ANZ National Bank.
He replaces leading Maori businessman Rob McLeod, who has stepping down from a number of prominent boards including Telecom Corp's.
Dr Brash quit the National leadership under pressure in November.
He told NZPA recently he was looking to take on a number of directorships.
"Dr Brash, who was the Reserve Bank Governor between 1988 and 2002, is recognised internationally for his financial sector knowledge and leadership," ANZ National chairman Sir Dryden Spring said.
ANZ National is a unit of the ANZ Banking Group, headquartered in Sydney.
Mr McLeod, chairman of the Business Roundtable, is resigning after his appointment as managing partner of Ernst & Young in New Zealand.
Of Ngati Porou descent, Mr McLeod was formerly chairman at Ernst & Young between 2002 and 2004. He will take up the new position on June 30.
