New Zealand's new low-value coins will be minted in Canada.
The Royal Canadian Mint won the job through a tender process after a decision in March to make the 50c, 20c and 10c pieces lighter and smaller.
The present coins were made by the Royal Mint in Britain.
The $1 and $2 coins will be retained, as will the existing images on silver coins. The Reserve Bank plans to issue the new coins next July.
