Growth in New Zealand household borrowing cooled slightly in June, backing views that consumer caution remained a brake on the economy.
The Reserve Bank said seasonally adjusted total household borrowing rose 0.3 per cent to $172 billion last month, after a 0.4 per cent rise in May.
Consumer spending has cooled rapidly in the face of high interest rates, soaring food and petrol costs and a slowing housing market.
