KEY POINTS:
The Bank of New Zealand's Australian parent has lured BNZ managing director Peter Thodey across the Tasman.
Mr Thodey, who has been at the BNZ for 27 years and head of the bank for seven years, is to be group executive general manager at the National Australia Bank's head office.
He will be replaced by Cameron Clyne, who is currently executive general manager group development at the NAB.
Mr Clyne, who is also a BNZ director, will take up his role in March.
BNZ chairman Kerry McDonald says Mr Thodey had made an outstanding contribution to the bank and left it in good heart.
"He has assembled an excellent leadership team with a real depth and breadth of talent. Peter's experience will be invaluable in his new role with National Australia Bank that will benefit the wider group, as well as the New Zealand business."
Mr Thodey's NAB position is a new one, responsible for recruiting and retaining staff.
"As well as recruitment, the (new role) is about thinking about culture within the organisation and what we can do as an organisation to attract and retain the best people," an NAB spokesperson said.
NAB chief executive John Stewart said Mr Thodey's "outstanding leadership" of the BNZ had made him an excellent choice for the new role.
