The Government collected $13.05 billion in tax receipts in the September quarter, 2.1 per cent above forecast, according to Treasury data published today.
The data showed direct tax of $8.56 billion was 2.7 per cent above forecast, while total indirect tax of $4.49 billion was 1.1 per cent higher than forecast.
Total tax receipts were 4.4 per cent ahead of the same period a year earlier.
The Government is already under pressure to announce tax cuts after it reported a record $11.5 billion budget surplus in the year to June.
The National Party said every person was being overtaxed by nearly $3000 a year.
