"We thought it is definitely a reflection of the economy, what is happening. So we thought this is a good time that we must go ahead with this particular gesture and see what best we can do."
Mr Akuthota, who has been in the business for 12 years, said he had been overwhelmed by the response so far.
"We have been receiving a lot of calls for bookings. We are basically saying it is a first come, first served basis," he said.
"We initially thought we will go double the normal full capacity, but we are trying to find methods and means to see whether we can do it three times.
"So as long as the food is there, we would like to offer every last bit of whatever is prepared."
Mr Akuthota did not know how much it would cost yet, but said it would be "substantial".
The restaurants would serve their most popular dishes - butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, and vegetable korma.
"We are going to make the food mild so that everyone will be in a position to enjoy it.
"I hope everything goes well because it's the first time for us, and if there are going to be any slip-ups by us, I would request everyone who is going to come on the day to have some patience."
For Mr Akuthota, it's all about giving back to his loyal customers.
"People from Auckland and all over New Zealand have always been generous to us, and they definitely are very loyal to us.
"We have a very solid patronage, and at least if we can serve a few of our regular customers who are not able to come and afford to eat with us, our purpose is completed. But at the same time, everyone deserves a meal, so we do not want to differentiate."
