Wellington Airport chief executive Steven Fitzgerald is moving to Sydney to take over responsibility for airport investment with HRL Morrison & Co, which manages Wellington Airport's major shareholder Infratil.
Mr Fitzgerald, who joined the airport as chief executive in January 2008, had previously run Infratil's European airports. He will remain on the board of Wellington Airport.
Current airport chief operating officer John Howarth will be acting chief executive while an international search is carried out for a new head.
