Teen action series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is returning to film around Auckland but it has wound up in a scuffle with self-employed Kiwi film crews.
Saban, the company that owns the Power Rangers show, has set up a production office for the multimillion-dollar series in West Auckland and it is expected to start filming this summer.
Technicians Guild president Alun Bollinger, representing New Zealand crews, said the return of the show after two years was good news.
But Mr Bollinger said that with relaxed immigration rules on foreign workers, three key crew roles that New Zealanders could have filled would be undertaken by imported American workers.
The show's return is not surprising given the country's long association with the series.
