Employers had the upper hand in New Zealand's labour market last month, with applications for advertised roles outpacing the number of new jobs available, according to seek.co.nz.
Seek's Employment Index (SEI), which measured the ratio of new job ads listed on its site to applications received for those roles, declined 4.1 per cent in July.
The fall in the SEI showed the job market was becoming more competitive for candidates, said Janet Faulding, Seek NZ general manager.
"In the current market, jobseekers need to put their best foot forward and separate themselves from the pack to stand out."
Faulding said the fastest growing roles in the market last month were healthcare salespeople, auditors, manufacturing supervisors, call centre managers, and writers and journalists.
