KEY POINTS:
The Merchant Services Guild, representing pilots employed by Port of Tauranga, yesterday served notice of an intention to strike for 14 days from May 8.
The pilots want to renew their collective agreement and have filed a salary claim seeking parity with pilot rates paid in Australia.
The port said the salary claim was for an almost 40 per cent rise over existing pay rates.
Port of Tauranga shares remained steady, closing at $6.45 yesterday.
