KEY POINTS:
Former Westpac New Zealand chief executive Ann Sherry has been appointed chief executive officer of cruise ship firm Carnival Australia.
Sherry, who takes up her position in mid-July, will run the Australian operation of Miami-based Carnival, the world's largest cruise company, which reported revenues of US$2.46 billion in the first quarter of the year.
Sherry's four-year term in this country ended in March.
The Australian newspaper yesterday reported that she had signalled her intention for a change when she told the bank she wanted to leave New Zealand.
She said New Zealand was a difficult market, but her successor, Brad Cooper, would agree that he had inherited a business in much better shape.
The allure of the new position is the global nature of the company and the challenges of a new industry.
"I bring fresh thinking to the industry," Sherry said. "I bring management experience."
