Latest figures from Trade Me show the number of jobs listed on the site grew by 29 per cent between the second quarter of last year and the same period this year.
There was a jump of 15 per cent between the first and the second quarter of this year.
Trade Me head of commercial listings Jimmy McGee says businesses seem to have taken a more expansionary approach, confident the recession is behind them.
He says improved consumer confidence has also fuelled recruitment demand for staff.
However McGee says pay packets on offer have dropped for most jobs. He says that does not mean people in their current jobs are taking pay cuts, but the pay rates on offer for new jobs have gone down slightly.
