Family pressures have forced the resignation of the chief executive of the Ministry of Fisheries.
John Glaister has stepped down and will return to Australia.
States Services Commissioner Mark Prebble says Dr Glaister's mother was admitted to protective care in January and it has been impossible for him to manage the situation from New Zealand.
He understands Dr Glaister's decision and thanks him for the contribution he has made during his two and a half years in the job.
