A fireworks importing company has been fined more than $20,000 for supplying fireworks without obtaining the required test certificates.
Grand Finale Limited has also been fined another $2,000 for failing to comply with an order not to supply fireworks to retailers until the certificates were obtained.
The charges were brought by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
Ministry spokesman James Angus says an innocent member of the public could have been injured as a result of the unapproved fireworks.
He says it serves as a reminder for fireworks importers with Guy Fawkes celebrations less than two months away.
