KEY POINTS:
Employment confidence has surged to record highs, cementing the positive outlook for the economy, according to the Westpac-McDermott Miller Employment Confidence survey.
The index jumped 7.5 points in the September quarter to 135.9, its highest since the survey of employees began in June 2004 and following a nearly 3-point fall the previous quarter.
A reading above 100 indicates more optimists than pessimists.
