KEY POINTS:
Whitegoods manufacturer Electrolux has cut 44 jobs in Australia and New Zealand due to the economic slowdown.
Most of the jobs will go in Australia from the company's head office in Sydney, primarily in marketing and administration and including some jobs at senior executive level, Electrolux said.
But there will also be losses elsewhere.
"The company's two local manufacturing plants, the Electrolux Cooking Products Plant in Adelaide and the Electrolux Refrigeration Plant in Orange, NSW, will lose 12 administrative and management positions, but continue at reduced capacity in line with market demand forecasts," the company said in a statement.
The local restructure follows an announcement last year from Electrolux Group headquarters in Stockholm that it planned to cut 3000 people from its global workforce to adjust to the increasingly tough conditions in consumer products markets.
The company currently employs about 1740 workers in Australia and New Zealand.
It did not say how many of the 44 job cuts would be made in New Zealand.
