About 80 NZ Post staff in Wellington and Auckland are likely to lose their jobs owing to new technologies, increasing competition and the slowing economy, the state-owned enterprise says.
Spokeswoman Suzanne Carter said yesterday NZ Post was discussing a proposal for change with its staff that involved consolidating some corporate support functions within its Postal Services business.
Ms Carter said the proposal, presented to about 650 employees, would bring human resources, finance and marketing closer to the operational side of the postal business.
"Most impact would be felt in Wellington corporate office, with some impact in Auckland."
"A range of changes are proposed including the disestablishment of some roles and the creation of new roles.
Ms Carter said overall about 80 jobs were likely to go.
"We can't confirm any numbers until we have received and considered the feedback given to us by our people. Once feedback has been collected and considered a final decision will be made and changes confirmed."
She said affected staff were told of the proposed changes last Thursday and Friday and details would be made public on May 3 when a final decision was made.
