KEY POINTS:
SkyCity director and former NZ Post chief executive Elmar Toime, 58, is the company's new acting chief executive.
Italian-born, London-based Toime stepped down as chief executive of New Zealand Post in 2002 to take up a job with Britain's Royal Mail just days after Opposition MPs demanded that he quit after the Auditor-General uncovered extravagant spending by senior staff of the taxpayer-owned NZ Post subsidiary Transend Worldwide.
Toime, who earned about $770,000 a year at NZ Post, was with the state-owned enterprise for 15 years, 10 as chief executive.
He quit as deputy chairman of the Royal Mail in 2004 after losing a power struggle with its chief executive but walked away with severance pay of more than £775,000 ($2 million) after working there for just 18 months.
He was appointed to SkyCity's board in 1996. His other roles include non-executive director of Deutsche Post and Blackbay.
