Australia's job vacancies advertised in major newspapers rose to a six-month high in May amid signs miners are hiring workers, a survey by ANZ Banking Group showed.
Jobs advertised in newspapers gained 7.7 per cent from April to an average 20,832 a week, according to the report released yesterday in Melbourne. Jobs advertised on the internet in May fell 2.6 per cent. The figures are seasonally adjusted.
An increase in job vacancies suggests the labour market may strengthen as miners employ extra workers.
