ASB chief executive Charles Pink has announced his resignation, effective from next month.
Chief executive of retail banking Ian Park will step into the role until a permanent replacement is announced.
ASB chairman Gary Judd QC said the company was sad to be losing a chief executive of Pink's calibre.
"Charles has provided the bank with outstanding leadership over the past two years, and his legacy is a clear strategic direction, a strong leadership team and soundly performing bank."
Pink, who has been CEO since January 2009, advised the board of his decision to resign in early September.
The former chief executive of Barbados-based FirstCaribbean International Bank, Pink had previously had an 18-year career in personal and commercial banking with Barclays.
