ASB Bank Ltd, the local unit of Commonwealth Bank of Australia, has tapped the parent's head of human resources, marketing and communications for its new chief executive.
Barbara Chapman, CBA group executive, HR and group services, has been appointed chief executive and managing director of ASB, and will take up the role starting on April 26.
"Ms Chapman has an extensive list of professional achievements to her credit and was a key member of the senior management team that transitioned ASB into a nationally operating, full service financial services institution," ASB chairman Gary Judd said in a statement.
"At CBA she has driven a range of key customer satisfaction, culture building and brand repositioning initiatives across the group."
Chapman has been with the group for 17 years, previously holding marketing, HR and retail banking roles at ASB.
She headed up the group's New Zealand insurer, Sovereign Assurance, for two years.
ASB's head of retail banking Ian Park will continue to act as chief executive until she takes over the reins. He stepped into the role after Charles Pink left in November after almost two years in the top job. Pink cited personal reasons for his departure.
