60ha business park set to bring 4500 jobs

The expansion of businesses and housing in the wider area was a sign of real growth and the new motorway interchange was a vital part of that.

A new 60ha business park in Silverdale north could mean people who live around the Millwater/Orewa area won't need to travel on clogged motorways to get to their jobs.

Alistair White, managing director of Planning Focus, which has been involved with the planned Highgate Business Park between Millwater and State Highway 1, said the project's creation would mean extensive job opportunities in the area in future.

"Highgate is planned to generate about 4500 jobs within 20 years."

Highgate is north of the Weiti River, between Wainui Rd and the motorway.

Completion of the new Wainui Interchange was a condition of consent for both the Highgate and Millwater developments in the Silverdale north region.

White will today deliver a speech at the opening of the new SH1 motorway interchange, funded by WFH which is developing Millwater and Highgate Business Park.

White said expansion of businesses and housing in that wider area was a sign of real growth and the new motorway interchange was a vital part of that.

"The ramps - which have been privately funded - and Highgate will assist in arresting the daily tidal flow of traffic to and from the Hibiscus Coast, and the resultant adverse effects on the roading network and environment," he said.

White said Highgate was a project by Auckland's Reid family who own the land. "We are fortunate that the Reids purchased the business land.

"With a civil contracting arm to their enterprises, you can see before you the amount of earthworks and effort necessary to get this land ready for development."
