Chinese policy makers are not certain just how fast the country's booming economy can safely expand, the head of its central bank was quoted in a magazine as saying.
In a report for its Monday edition, Emerging Markets reported that central bank chief Zhou Xiaochuan said he did not accept claims the economy was overheating.
"We do not actually know the growth potential of the Chinese economy," the publication quoted Zhou as saying.
"An 11 per cent growth rate seems very high but China's savings rate is very high, and corporate profits recently have been very good. International conditions are also good. Demand from the US, Europe and recently Japan is strong."
