SAN FRANCISCO - eBay Inc today named Data Systems Corp Chief Financial Officer Bob Swan, a dot-com refugee who once served as chief financial officer at bankrupt online grocer Webvan, as eBay's new CFO.
The San Jose, California-based eBay hired Swan to replace Rajiv Dutta, who is moving to Europe to be president of Skype, the company's recently acquired Web-calling business.
Swan takes over as CFO effective March 16.
Near the peak of the dot-com craze, Swan joined Webvan in October 1999, where he served as chief financial officer, chief operating officer and chief executive, for two years. Webvan filed for bankruptcy protection in 2001.
In a statement, eBay said Swan's tenure at Webvan gave him solid experience in running Silicon Valley businesses.
"I am thrilled that Bob will be joining us as CFO," President and CEO Meg Whitman said in a statement.
"Bob's track record leading the financial strategy and direction of major companies like EDS and TRW makes him the ideal person to shepherd eBay into our next decade of growth," she said.
