KEY POINTS:
A wholesale company which attempted to sell unsafe and banned Christmas lights has been convicted for breaching electricity regulations.
Sunny International Limited was found to be selling the prohibited lights despite being told not to because of their safety risks.
Technical Advisor for Energy Safety, Bill Lowe, says there were a number of issues with the lights. The conductors were so thin they created an electric shock hazard. He says there was a risk they would cause pine trees or tinsel decorations to catch fire.
The company has been fined $1400.
