KEY POINTS:
Stationery manufacturer Croxley says it will close its Papakura site later this year, a decision affecting around 90 jobs.
The company says it intends to consolidate all of its manufacturing operations to its Avondale head office, forcing the closure of its smaller south Auckland site in December.
Croxley Stationery's Managing Director, Joe Naus, says the consolidation has been necessary to establish an operating environment where the company can remain competitive and maximise future employment opportunities.
"This is not a decision we've entered into lightly. Papakura has been an integral part of our manufacturing operations in New Zealand for the past 37 years.
"We will be working with our Papakura staff individually over the next nine months to assist them through the process and help clarify their options. We want to do right by them and ensure they make the best decision for themselves and their families."
Mr Naus says Croxley is committed to transitioning as many people as possible to Avondale. Croxley will also be investigating possible job opportunities with other major employers in the Papakura area.
Croxley envisages that more than half of the 91 jobs at Papakura will potentially be incorporated into its Avondale operations.
