Honey healthcare-maker Comvita and children's clothing retailer Pumpkin Patch are among 30 finalists in this year's New Zealand International Business Awards.
Developed by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) in partnership with the private sector, the awards recognise new approaches businesses are taking to achieve international success.
Categories include best use of research and development, best commercialisation of intellectual property, best use of design and most innovative approach as well as general and leadership categories.
Finalists in the over $50 million annual revenue category include the New Zealand Merino Company, Comvita, Pumpkin Patch, Cognition Education and Douglas Pharmaceuticals.
Xero founder Rod Drury and the New Zealand Merino Company's John Brakenridge are also finalists in the outstanding international business leader category.
NZTE chief executive Peter Chrisp said the 25 business and five individual finalists were from around New Zealand and operated in a range of industries, including food production, biotechnology, engineering, apparel, consulting, and technology.
Chrisp said they were were some of New Zealand's most innovative, nimble and determined exporters: "The past two years have been challenging. But the mix of finalists shows that flexible approaches and an ability to seek out niche opportunities can bring rewards."
Winners of each of the nine categories, as well as the 2010 supreme winner, will be announced at an awards ceremony on October 13 in Auckland.
