KEY POINTS:
The chief executive of South Island Maori tribe Ngai Tahu has resigned.
Tahu Potiki has been locked for years in behind scenes battles with chairman Mark Solomon over the direction of the organisation.
He told Waatea Reo Maori News he was resigning to spend more time with his family.
Pressure over the tribe's management had died down, so now was a good time to go, he said.
The tribe in September was reported to have lost $20 million from its fishing division and experienced a sharp downturn in profits from its tourism ventures.
Mr Potiki at the time described some of the tribe's relations with sub-tribes as dysfunctional.
