Only a small percentage of Australians intend to holiday overseas this Christmas, a survey has found.
Almost one in five respondents said last month's Bali bombing had influenced their travel plans, the Visa International Inbound Tourism Report said.
"That's not to say people aren't travelling. Obviously some people will stay at home, other people will switch destinations throughout Asia or go to other parts of the world," a Visa International spokesman said.
Of the 42 per cent of respondents intending to leave their home town for Christmas, only six per cent would go overseas, the survey found.
The most popular destinations for overseas travellers are Asia and New Zealand.
Two thirds of the 1000 people surveyed expect to spend less than A$1000 ($1092) per person on their holiday.
"One of the things about tourism is a lot of tourism is visiting friends and relatives, particularly at the time of Christmas," the spokesman said.
"So that's why you probably see such a low number in terms of spending."
