KEY POINTS:
The Copthorne Hotel and Resort in the Bay of Islands is in line for a facelift.
The planned $6 million extension, which includes the addition of 35 rooms, will take the total number of rooms and suites to 180.
Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand Ltd managing director BK Chiu said the extension reflected increased demand, with tourist numbers and conference and incentive business having grown in recent years.
The expansion represented a commitment by the hotel joint venture partners Millennium Copthorne and the Tai Tokerau Maori Trust Board to tourism infrastructure in the region, Mr Chiu said.
