July was another positive month for backpacker accommodation providers as the trend for national guest nights continued to rise in July, reaching an all-time high.
The monthly accommodation survey carried out by Statistics NZ records the number of guests staying in hotels, motels, backpacker accommodation, and holiday parks in New Zealand.
Industry and labour statistics manager Blair Cardno said despite mixed results for some parts of the country, overall guest numbers were up.
Accommodation numbers in Northland, the West Coast and Southland all fell from the previous year, while there was a nationwide increase of 8 per cent from July last year.
The survey figures have recently been more volatile than usual, because of early Easter this year, and later school holidays.
