Approval for transtasman backpackers merger

Auckland-based backpackers firm ACB Group Holdings intends merging with Sydney-based Australasian operator base Backpackers.

The combined business plans to expand further through organic growth, acquisition and merger with initial emphasis on Australia.

The shareholders of both companies have approved the merger.

Campbell Shepherd, managing director of ACB Group, known locally as Beyond Backpackers, will become chief executive of the New Zealand arm of the merged entity.

Current base Backpackers boss John Osborne will be group chief executive.
