KEY POINTS:
Jucy Rentals, the Alpe family's campervan and car rental business, plans to list on the NZX next year.
The Auckland-based business with the bright green rental offices was established by former Tourism Holdings boss Chris Alpe and his sons.
Alpe said his family expected to list the company in the next 12 to 18 months but could not say how much would be raised from the public.
"Our objective with Jucy is to IPO it. It's been audited on an annual basis and has a good track record. I've no idea what we would seek in terms of money.
"But it's important as a family that my boys are not tied to the business. I want to give them the ability to walk away from it if they want to."
Alpe said he originally owned 70 per cent of Jucy when it was established as Ezy Group, and his sons, Dan and Tim, held the rest in equal shares.
But they set financial targets that allowed the sons to get a portion of his holding if the business succeeded.
Dan and Tim Alpe now have a controlling stake.
"The idea with the IPO is to grow it by size," Alpe said this week.
"The Alpe name is synonymous with the industry and we believe we can grow it organically.
"We'd also grow Jucy with acquisitions like attractions."
Alpe appeared in this year's NBR Rich List with a $60 million fortune.
