Auckland Airport and Sky City are considering building an airport hotel.
The pair are preparing a feasibility report, which is expected to take three months.
Airport managing director John Goulter, who hinted at a hotel development when the company presented its interim profit results a fortnight ago, said a hotel would be a logical extension to the airport's existing facilities. He said most big international airports had one or more hotels on site.
Sky City managing director Evan Davies said the airport was a "highly strategic location".
Any final proposal, which is likely to be in the form of a joint venture, depends on approval from both sets of directors.
