Telecom's XT network problems have been fixed, the company says.
Problems with voice calls were predominantly in the North Island, and spokeswoman Katherine Murphy said the fault was caused by a software problem.
Data and text messages were working as normal.
Ms Murphy said the voice service was progressively restored from midday, and was operating normally by 3pm.
Telecom apologised for the inconvenience to affected customers.
The XT network came under fire when it was plagued with outage problems after it was launched in 2009.
