Woosh extends South Island cover

Telecommunications provider Woosh Wireless has extended its network coverage to 80 per cent of Southlanders with the commissioning of a new site in Bluff.

Woosh executive Sandra Geange said the company's wireless technology was well suited to the Southland region "with its large land area, hilly terrain and widely dispersed population".
Woosh plans to commission more sites in Southland, bringing coverage to Round Down, Spar Bush and White Hill during the first quarter of next year in partnership with Venture Southland.

Woosh has also begun rolling out its phone service in Wellington and Christchurch.

Subscribers to the wireless phone service get free local calling with national calls and international calls to 35 destinations costing a flat rate 10 cents a minute.

The Woosh phone service was launched in Auckland in September.
