KEY POINTS:
More information about Telecom's split into three operating units was made available yesterday with the opening of a local loop unbundling website.
As well as providing public information on how unbundling works, the new website allows telcos wishing to use Telecom's copper lines to place orders, check faults and to access billing information through a secure portal.
Telecom estimates unbundling will provide 90 per cent of the revenue for the new network division to be created under the Government's three-way operational split plan.
The soon-to-be-created access network service (ANS) unit will be responsible for running Telecom's fixed network, between the local telephone exchange and customer premises and the regional backhaul network.
Local loop unbundling allows Telecom's rivals to place their own equipment in local exchanges and run services such as broadband or video on demand over the copper lines running to homes and businesses.
